Agriculture

Mercer County has 296 farms with the average size of a farm being 1,526 acres. Agriculture producers in Mercer County raise a wide variety of crops each year. The crops with the most planted acres are: wheat, durum, barley, oats, sunflowers, canola, flax, corn, lentils, soybeans, dry beans, alfalfa, peas, mustard and buckwheat. Mercer County is also known for its range land with around 36,500 head of cattle, along with a approximatley 2,000 sheep and are now ranked 10th in the state for the most. There are also many horse owners within the county.
